General Medicine

More than 45% of daily KCH patients come for their long sufferings and illness that require medical treatment. Hence General Medicine has become an important discipline of KCH services. With its current manpower and doctor’s pool, Karamtola Community Hospital (KCH) is capable to handle most of the cases, ranging from a complicated suffering to an acute medical emergency. The hospital categorically offers doctor’s consultation, pathological tests, digital X-Ray, ECG and UGS and all necessary investigation support. Hospital admission, nursing care, oxygen and emergency care are additionally available 24 hour a day for patients who need them. There are social workers and health educators too, for providing counseling to patients and their attendants.

However, ICU is absent in Karamtola Hospital but KCH earnestly looks forward to widening the facilities including establishing ICU in future.

The Surgeries and Operation Theatre

Many patients all through the year visit KCH with surgery problems. Currently this is a growing section of Karamtola hospital. The clinical conditions may be hernia or an appendicitis or Cholecystitis, or they may be some fracture and bone deformities or Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) problems or it could even be gynecological issues. There are patients too with eye problems requiring surgeries. Whatever may be the requirements, KCH is well capacitated always to help such patients with surgeries, with additional supports from pathology, X-Ray, ECG and USG.

There are four General Operation rooms, fitted with most modernized instruments that help hospital surgeons plan their operations in their own way for benefit of patients day or night. The patients are admitted into Male and Female Wards. Additionally there are AC, Non-AC and VIP paying cabins too for patients with discretion. KCH OT team is commendable with availability of doctors 24 hours a day for pre-operative and post-operative supports. Guest surgeons are regularly visiting this hospital. Anesthetists are also regularly helping in administering general anesthesia as well as regional and local block, as per requirement of the surgery with nursing section additionally supporting surgery patients round the clock.

Obstetric and Gynecology

The hospital management considers Women and Children the most needy as they are also neglected in many clinical aspects in Bangladesh perspectives and since the very beginning KCH attached its focus on them. More than 60% of the patients coming to KCH are female too. In addition to regular consultancy services, KCH hospital provides for pregnant women Antenatal (ANC) and Postnatal (PNC) care too, which is structured and arranged as per WHO guidelines. This is national priority too. KCH hospital has a referral linkage with the community in this aspect. Normal deliveries are regularly being conducted here, whereas cesarean section operations are only practiced for those patients having clear and absolute indications.

Orthopedics

Now-a-days accidents and trauma are common causes for illness in Bangladesh. Presently KCH also has to handle a growing number of patients with such orthopedic problems. This department started operating with the involvement and support of South Korean Spine and Orthopedic Consultant Surgeon Dr Jung. Currently there is a Bangladesh Consultant doctor working here. The hospital wards welcome patients having serious complaints and requiring admissions. The hospitals digital X-ay department is a strong backup for orthopedic patients too. The general OT is additionally open with anesthesia services to help orthopedic surgeon operations 24 hours a day.

Pediatrics

As mentioned earlier, KCH hospital is dedicated to offer children friendly clinical services. Outpatient department for children’s’ treatment is operating

regularly in KCH where experienced doctors are available to help as per requirement. The KCH own nursing department is capable to provide pediatric nursing care too. When children get admitted, special beds are normally arranged for the mom.

Ear Nose and Throat

Ear, Nose and Throat is another important clinical sector where KCH has got gradually increasing hospital interventions. There are quite a high number of populations having such problem in the community. In KCH in addition of regular outpatients’ services, there are ENT Specialist & Surgeon in hospital clinical pool. The Hospital is not only providing simple consultation as per requirement of the patients, but also admitting patients and performing regular ENT surgeries. Ophthalmology (Eye)

Karamtola Eye Service Project is already a vibrant clinical section. There are daily attendance of 80 ~ 100 patients on an average. All related tests are regularly being done here. KCH hospital maintains a separate ophthalmology outdoor with a Senior Medical Officer regularly sitting and providing consultation there. KCH also has a high quality Ophthalmology Operation Theatre, where cataract and other eye surgeries are being performed routinely by KCH’s enlisted and guest Eye Specialist & Phaco surgeons. It is to mention that all eye operations here are being done at comparatively low cost. Moreover, in each month 15-18 SICS operations are also being done for cataract patients, free of Cost.

Dental unit

In Karamtola Community Hospital, the Dental Unit is rather recently added service point. An experienced female dentist is available here on all weekdays and the unit is capable, with modernized facilities, to provide daily treatment for in-coming patients with regular high end dental care.
