Karamtola Nursing School (KNS)

The education for nursing students at Karamtola started as Community Junior Nursing School In 2007. The purpose of Nursing School has been to help poor underprivileged young girls from the communities and develop them into health work forces as aide nurses in order that they could widely participate in health care service delivery for the communities as well as they lessen the burden on their families.  Karamtola Nursing School (KNS) is a continuing project for Presbyterian Fellowship in Bangladesh (PFB).

Karamtola Nursing School (KNS) is situated within the premises of Karamtola Hospital. This is a residential nursing institute too with independent learning facilities. The nursing course operated here is 3 years long, and though not yet accredited by BNMC, the course is crafted incorporating basics of nursing, clinical education and patient care. The nurses and doctors of CHDP-K General Hospital work as teachers in Karamtola Community Junior Nursing School (KNS). The students enrolled in KNS get opportunity for their practical orientation with the patients in CHDP-K General Hospital work too. The students also have opportunity, after passing their final examination, to work and learn as interns in CHDP-K Hospital.

In 2022 in July twelve new students joined the course. The students are Bengali 2, Bam Tribe 3, Shantal 4, Garo 1, Marma 1 and Rakhine 1. The students mostly represent the minority and ethnic groups of the country and some students happened to hear the gospel for the first time as they were here. Seven students continued their nursing studies in Karamtola Nursing School (KNS) in 2022 and in last June they graduated the 3rd grade, though with difficulty, due to impacts of the corona time. All of them are now taking an internship at CHDP-K Hospital, where two are working in hospital OT whereas others in hospital wards, outpatient clinic and Samsung Clinic. They proved responsible enough to fulfill their roles diligently.

The Presbyterian Fellowship in Bangladesh earnestly hopes that through Karamtola Junior Nursing School, the young girls will profoundly grow in interest in the gospel as they become resilient and self-dependent woman and undertake the roles as nurses with strong self-esteem in all situations.
